GCI announces retirement of Paul Landes after 26 years of leadership
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – GCI today announced the upcoming retirement of Paul Landes, senior vice president and general manager for consumer services, after more than 26 years of dedicated service. Throughout his tenure, Landes has played a pivotal role in shaping GCI’s consumer business and driving innovation across Alaska’s telecommunications landscape.
“Paul’s vision and leadership have been instrumental in shaping GCI’s consumer business into what it is today,” said GCI President and Chief Operating Officer Greg Chapados. “His ability to anticipate customer needs and deliver innovative solutions has set the standard for excellence in Alaska’s telecommunications industry.”
Paul’s leadership sparked some of GCI’s most transformative achievements. Under his guidance, GCI launched retail stores statewide, expanded into mobile wireless services, pioneered bundled
communications, and built one of Alaska’s largest consumer businesses. He championed the opening of 38 storefronts, introduced Alaska to 1GIG red service, and grew household cable modems from just 1,000 to more than 150,000. These milestones reflect his commitment to connecting Alaskans.
Beyond his professional achievements, Landes has been a passionate advocate for Alaska communities and served on several boards over the years including Special Olympics Alaska, Volunteers of America and the Anchorage Homelessness Leadership Council.
“Paul’s passion for inclusion and his support of Special Olympics Alaska have changed lives,” said Sarah Arts, President & CEO of Special Olympics Alaska. “From launching a transformative endowment to rallying the community, Paul has been instrumental in creating opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities. His legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.”
In 2018, he was named the Alaska Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Outstanding Philanthropist. That same year, Landes led efforts that raised more than $1 million for Covenant House Alaska’s Sleep Out: Executive Edition and helped launch a $2 million endowment supporting Special Olympics Alaska in honor of its late president and CEO, Jim Balamaci.
“GCI has always been about providing the best-possible internet and wireless experience and delivering exceptional customer service, and I’m proud of the team and their commitment to serving all Alaskans," said SVP and GM of Consumer Services Paul Landes. "I’m equally proud of the role we’ve played in supporting Alaska nonprofits and causes that make a difference. I’m grateful to my colleagues, partners, and customers for making this journey possible and honored to have contributed to GCI’s success.”
As part of a planned transition, Maureen Moore, currently GCI’s senior vice president and chief customer experience officer, will assume leadership of GCI’s overall consumer business. Landes will remain with GCI as a senior vice president through the end of 2026 to ensure a smooth handoff and continued success. We invite you to join us in celebrating Paul Landes for his extraordinary career, leadership and his unwavering dedication to GCI, our customers, and communities across Alaska.
