ANCHORAGE, Alaska – GCI announced today it has been awarded a $31 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s ReConnect program in support of its ongoing efforts to improve internet service in Western Alaska. GCI’s Lower Kuskokwim Fiber Expansion Project will build out fiber optic middle mile and last mile networks between the following Western Alaska communities:
- Atmautluak
- Kasigluk
- Nunapitchuk

GCI plans to connect this new infrastructure to its statewide fiber-optic network, expanding access to urban level connectivity and bringing digital equity to rural Alaska.
