GCI launches 2.5 gig internet speeds for Angoon consumer customers
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Lightning-fast 2.5 gig residential internet speeds have arrived in Angoon! GCI, Alaska’s largest telecommunications company, recently launched the service in the small Southeast Alaska town, marking the company’s 25th 2.5 gig-capable community.
The launch of the new service means Angoon, located 55 miles southwest of Juneau on Admiralty Island and home to approximately 350 residents, now has access to urban level internet speeds, plans and pricing.
“The launch of GCI’s lightning-fast internet service in Angoon is another big step toward closing the digital divide in Alaska,” said GCI Chief Communications Officer Heather Handyside. “The momentum just keeps building for GCI’s effort to extend fiber and 2.5 gig internet residential internet speeds to more Alaska communities than ever before.”
GCI also delivers 2.5 gig (2,500 Mbps!) residential internet speeds to Anchorage, Eagle River, Eielson AFB, Fairbanks, Fort Greely, Fort Wainwright, Girdwood, Homer, Juneau, Kenai, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Nome, North Pole, Palmer, Petersburg, Seward, Sitka, Soldotna, Unalaska, Valdez, Wasilla and Wrangell.
Through the Aleutians Fiber Project, the AIRRAQ Network, and its newly-announced Deering-Kivalina Fiber Project, GCI plans to bring 2.5 gig residential internet speeds to 26 more Alaska communities in the coming years.
