CNET taps GCI as Alaska’s best internet service provider

News outlet cites speed, availability for GCI claiming top spot

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — GCI was recently named Alaska’s best internet service provider by media outlet CNET, which is widely recognized as an authority on technology news. CNET cited GCI’s 2.5 gig residential internet speeds and broad availability of services as a determining factor in choosing the company as Alaska’s top ISP.

Approximately 80% of Alaskans have access to 2.5 gig residential internet speeds though GCI’s network. The service is currently available in Anchorage, Angoon, Eagle River, Eielson AFB, Fairbanks, Fort Greely, Fort Wainwright, Girdwood, Homer, Juneau, Kenai, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Nome, North Pole, Palmer, Petersburg, Seward, Sitka, Soldotna, Unalaska, Valdez, Wasilla and Wrangell.

“We’re pleased to be recognized by CNET as Alaska’s best ISP,” said GCI Chief Marketing Officer Kate Slyker. “We continue to make significant investments into our statewide network, bringing fiber further than ever before. Today, GCI offers access to 2.5 gig consumer internet speeds in 25 communities, but with half a dozen fiber projects currently in progress, that number will more than double in the coming years.”

The number of Alaskans with access to 2.5 gig residential internet speeds is expected to grow in the coming years through the company’s Aleutians Fiber Project, AIRRAQ Network fiber project, and Deering-Kivalina fiber project. Through those three projects, GCI will be bringing fast, affordable, unlimited data plans to 26 more communities in the coming years.

GCI has invested more than $4 billion over the past 40+ years in its diverse statewide network.
