GCI is the official technology sponsor of the Alaska Black Caucus’ new Equity Center
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — GCI participated in the Alaska Black Caucus’ (ABC) preliminary ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this month for the organization's new Equity Center in downtown Anchorage. This event marked a significant milestone in the ABC’s ongoing efforts to support the Black community in Alaska. The official grand opening is set for Saturday, February 1, at 3 PM, in celebration of Black History Month. GCI will be providing connectivity at the center to help advance the organization’s mission.
The Equity Center will serve as a hub for ABC’s programming, including health initiatives, educational workshops, and community events. It will also play a central role in building a more inclusive and equitable future for all Alaskans.
“We are thrilled to partner with GCI to further our mission of advocating for the rights and well-being of Black Alaskans and people of color,” said Alaska Black Caucus President & CEO Celeste Hodge Growden. “This partnership allows us to enhance our programming and services at the new Equity Center and ensures that we can continue to serve our community with critical resources and support.”
Since 2021, GCI has provided annual financial support to the organization with cash donations of $15,000 each year. The company has been a committed supporter of ABC's mission to foster positive change and support the Black community in Alaska.
GCI was one of the first organizations to step up in support of the ABC Equity Center. As part of its commitment, GCI will provide connectivity services to the center, valued at $24,000 annually. GCI has also provided a Cisco phone system to the center and will assist with the furnishing of the center’s conference rooms, bolstering the center’s ability to serve as a hub for community engagement and collaboration.
"At GCI, we are committed to supporting initiatives that drive meaningful change in the communities we serve,” said GCI Gives Senior Manager Tiffany Vassar. “Our partnership with the Alaska Black Caucus is an important step in fostering greater equity and access for Black Alaskans and people of color. We are proud to provide resources and technology that will help ABC continue its vital work in advancing health, education, and economic opportunities for all.
GCI is one of Alaska’s leaders in corporate philanthropy, donating approximately $2 million each year in cash, products and connectivity to organizations across the state. GCI is committed to giving back to the communities it serves and provides employees with 16 hours of paid leave to volunteer with local organizations.
