GCI sponsorship uplifts student athletes at ASAA March Madness
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – GCI, the official technology sponsor of the Alaska School Activities Association, is ready to cheer on student athletes and celebrate the coaches and families who uplift Alaska’s youth at this year’s March Madness Alaska.
GCI employees are using their paid volunteer time to host a booth at the events with Alaska Airlines, handing out GCI branded pom poms and Alaska Airlines tournament brackets, hosting a complimentary digital photobooth, and answering any questions tournament goers may have. GCI provides each employee with 16 hours of paid leave annually to volunteer at nonprofits of their choice. This year, 36 employees are volunteering a combined 63 hours at ASAA March Madness Alaska.
“Basketball plays a huge role in the lives of many Alaska youths, especially in rural Alaska,” said Tiffany Vassar, senior program manager of GCI Gives, GCI’s corporate philanthropy program. “It’s always exciting to see people come from all over the state to cheer on their team at March Madness Alaska. We are proud to support such a positive influence for Alaska’s youth.”
The annual GCI and Alaska Airlines Paper Airplane Toss will be March 15 during the 2A Girls State Championship at 6:30 p.m. and March 22 during the 3A Boys State Championship at 3 p.m. The first place prize is a round-trip ticket on Alaska Airlines, the second place prize is a new iPhone 16E from GCI and the third place prize is Apple Airpods from GCI.
GCI is also sponsoring weekday halftime prizes throughout the tournament with the winners receiving Bluetooth speakers or headphones. Giveaways, like GCI stress basketballs, will be thrown into the crowd.
In addition to these giveaways and experiences, ASAA attendees who are 18 years or older will have the opportunity to win a free iPad, and a GCI volunteer will be onsite to help attendees make sure they are entered to win GCI’s 10,000 MPH Alaska Airlines giveaway.
The 1A/2A tournament will feature more than 40 teams from across the state and run from March 12 – 15. The 3A/4A tournament will host over 30 teams and tip off on Wednesday, March 19 and run through March 22. GCI’s network is ready to take on the crowds. Last year GCI’s wireless capacity was more than doubled to ensure coaches, players and fans had the connectivity they needed throughout the tournament.
