GCI supports Safe Connections Act line separations for survivors of domestic violence
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — GCI is helping survivors of domestic violence access safe, affordable communications using the line separation process under the Safe Connections Act (SCA) and FCC rules. The SCA, a federal law supporting survivors of domestic violence and other qualifying acts, provides for the quick separation of the survivor’s mobile line(s), or the abuser’s line(s), from the shared account without the prior knowledge of the abuser.
“Victims of abuse often face challenges accessing communication services, especially if their mobile plans are controlled by their abusers,” said GCI Senior Vice President & Chief Customer Experience Officer Maureen Moore. “The Safe Connections Act allows for survivors to separate mobile phone lines for themselves and any dependents from a shared plan.”
Survivors can request the separation of mobile lines through the GCI website, over the phone at 1-800-800-4800, or in person at a GCI retail store. Due to the sensitive nature of these situations, a specialized GCI team will handle line separation requests.
