GCI’s Chris McGinty lends neighbors a helping hand in wake of severe Mat-Su windstorm
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – As GCI crews from around Southcentral Alaska hustled to restore service disrupted during severe weather in the Mat-Su, other GCI employees lent a helping hand to neighbors affected by power outages, falling trees, and damaged homes.
GCI Prepaid Account Manager and Valley resident Chris McGinty took advantage of volunteer hours through GCI’s Community Service Program following the storm, removing trees from driveways and homes in his area.
“In Boy Scouts, we were all about being prepared and community service. Helping neighbors was and continues to be a regular thing,” McGinty said. “I was actually able to bring a heater to a fellow employee and light a gas fireplace without power – I was basically a MacGyver.”
“Chris’ willingness to jump right in to help those affected by the storm is a shining example of what we strive for at GCI – to be a good neighbor,” said Senior Director of GCI Sales & Marketing Jay Blury. “I’m not surprised to hear Chris stepped up to help his neighbors. That’s just the kind of guy he is. Chris embodies GCI values and makes me proud to work for GCI.”
