GCI supports early childhood education in Nome with $5,000 donation to Nome Preschool Association

The contribution will help cover the organization’s operational costs and ensure a safe, healthy education environment for the children of Nome

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – GCI recently made a $5,000 contribution to the Nome Preschool Association to help cover the organization's operating costs, ensuring families and children in the community have access to affordable early childhood education opportunities. The Nome Preschool Association, like many nonprofits across the state, has faced budgetary challenges over the last year and a half as they've been forced to cancel or scale down in-person fundraising efforts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"GCI is an Alaska company with employees across the state. We're your neighbors and we know the pandemic has presented significant challenges for the nonprofit organizations that offer vital service to local communities," said GCI Senior Manager of Corporate Communications and Community Engagement Jenifer Nelson. "We provided the contribution to help the Nome Preschool Association bridge the gap and continue to serve the children of Nome."

GCI is one of Alaska's leaders in corporate philanthropy, donating approximately $2 million each year in cash, products, and connectivity to organizations across the state. GCI is committed to giving back to the communities it serves and provides employees with 16 hours of paid leave to volunteer with local organizations. In 2020, more than 320 GCI employees volunteered over 2,900 hours with local non-profit organizations across the state.
