Mat-Su Climber 2
Road to 10 Gig

With GCI connectivity, the Mat-Su is among the nation’s most-connected regions

By the end of 2022, GCI’s Mat-Su 5G investment will total more than $19 million

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – GCI, Alaska’s largest telecommunications company, is making big investments in the Wasilla and Palmer areas, keep Alaskans on the cutting edge of connectivity. From the launch of 2 gig internet speeds in late 2021 to the deployment of 5G wireless technology, the Mat-Su isn’t just one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, it’s also among the best connected.

By the end of 2022, GCI will have invested more than $19 million in its Mat-Su 5G deployment, with more wireless upgrades expected in the area in 2023.

“We’re thrilled to bring 5G service to even more of our Mat-Su customers—it just makes sense to bring the fastest mobile speed to the fastest-growing area of the state,” said GCI Chief Marketing Officer Kate Slyker. “GCI’s substantial investment in the Mat-Su in recent years is helping ensure our telecommunications infrastructure is primed and ready to support the continued growth of Palmer, Wasilla and the surrounding area.”

Work on GCI’s 2022 Mat-Su 5G build will ramp up in the coming months as crews upgrade equipment on wireless towers to support the expansion of 5G service. Each 5G-capable site is outfitted with specialized equipment to utilize GCI’s low-band and mid-band radio spectrum, driving major improvements in speed and coverage, particularly in-building coverage.
